City losing millions in Slaughter

MILLIONS in revenue is suspected to be lost at the slaughter compound.

Councilor Philian Weygan-Allan called for an inventory of business establishments inside the city owned abattoir.

"Magulo ang slaughter house, an inventory is needed to know exactly vendors and brgy income generation project, the city not able to collect rentals in millions," Weygan – Allan said.

In a dialog with stakeholders last week, Allan with city officials said a masterplan will be crafted for the entire slaughter compound.

City Veterinarian Brigitte Piok said the sewage and drainage system has to be set in place with separate

structures for various establishments, separating toilet, sink, kitchen and home and commercial use systems.

An ultimatum has been given those in the area to comply within 30 days or face cancellation of permits.

"The toilet of the hog vendors should be constructed, drainage and sewer canals be designated," Allan added.

During the dialog, the treasury office revealed 99 establishments operating without permits opposed to the 193 operating with complete papers.

However, Allan said records of the licensing office reveals more businesses in the area, lamenting government assets are being used without proper monitoring.

"The law is harsh to many but it is the law, we have to comply with the law. We will look at equality, lahat dapat may permit,” the lady lawmaker said.

"The city has bunkhouse for employees, unfortunately, those who are no longer employees are still living there... magulo and it looks the city has not managed the property well," Allan added.

Allan said legislation will be crafted for the slaughter compound in the following weeks.
