City sports council reconstituted
THE CITY Council approved on first reading a proposed ordinance amending the membership of the City Sports Promotion and Development Council (CSPDC).
The proposed amendment will limit the composition of the CSPDC for members to easily convene and effectively function.
Upon the enactment of the amendment, the CSPDC will now be composed of the city mayor as chairperson, chairperson of the City Council’s committee on youth welfare and sports development as vice-chairperson; the city schools division superintendent, representative from the Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League, and the chairperson of the local finance committee as members; and the sports and recreation division will act as the secretariat.
“Active representatives from the private sector may also be included as regular members, and committees may also be created in order to address concerns on marketing, promotions, sports tourism, media, sport events for person with disabilities, sports medicines, sports infrastructure and facilities and barangay sports,” the proposal reads.
Once approved on third and final reading, a regular fund of P1 million will be included in the annual budget of the City Administrator’s Office-Sports Division will be used in dispensing the functions of the CSPDC.
In 2014, the Sanggunian approved Ordinance Numbered 68, creating and establishing the Baguio City Sports Promotion and Development Council. However, based from the recommendations submitted by the Sports and Recreation Division of the City Administrator's Office and as a result of the report of the Sanggunian’s Legislative Tracking Officer Eliza Orduña, the composition should be amended to ensure the effective implementation of the ordinance.
