CONCESSIONAIRES at the Burnham Park skating rink will not be renewed.

Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong confirmed plans to end contracts of tenants at the skating rink and rehabilitate the space.

Magalong announced the skating rink rehabilitation will be aligned with the Burnham Park Master Development Plan which is set to be presented before the year ends.

As the master plan is presented, a public consultation will be conducted before its finalization.

The mayor said the plan includes food kiosks to be set at portions of the park away from the grassy areas to avoid

damage of landscapes.

Magalong also bared plans to use Burnham Park for the upcoming Christmas celebration of the city which will feature a Yuletide market featuring goods for the season.

Magalong also bared positive responses from a request to the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) to release an additional P300 million for the park development.

Initially, TIEZA allocated P20 million for landscaping of the Burnham Lake as an initial wave of support from the tourism body to the city government for the 34-hectare Burnham Park.

TIEZA also supports the pending proposal in Congress for the declaration of Burnham Park as a national heritage to give the agency more reason to infuse funds to sustain the efforts to preserve and protect the park and to regulate the put up of infrastructure in one of the country’s icon landmarks.
