Cursive writing as brain booster

WITH all of the discussions about progress in education, and making a difference, it is when educators align within schools and systems to do great things together which will create real growth. What do I mean by this?

It is essential to note that teachers should not only impact the learning environments of the class that they work with, but they also have an impact on the school’s culture. This can happen in sharing their passion through extracurricular activities or their knowledge on effective teaching strategies with school colleagues.

It is when a school is full of “school teachers” instead of “classroom teachers,” that we will truly see a huge impact and shift in the learning of our students.

As opposed to a “school teacher,” a “classroom teacher” is one that is focused solely on the subject matter. This kind of teachers know their content amazingly well and are great with their current group of students. However, once they step outside of their classroom, the students they do not teach are “not their problem. The rest of the school is something that is just happening around them.

Conversely, a “school teacher” can do all of those things that classroom teachers do within their own classrooms and subject matter, but when they walk out of their room, every child in the school is their child. A school teacher goes above and beyond what is expected and become a major contributor to the success of their school which they regard as not just a workplace but one that they take pride in and part of who they are.

Teachers should look at education as a continuous journey, not in one-year (or semester) chunks. What we do now, will make an impact later. Children need more than a “few” teachers to make them feel good about themselves. Teachers should not only work together, but need to understand that we all serve these kids and there is often a bigger picture than we can see beyond our time with any group. It is important that teachers realize every child in school is their student and that their efforts should always tie to the shared vision of the school and the Department of Education as a whole.
