Balili ES crowns Mr. and Ms. Used Eco-Art 2019

SHAIRA Mae Calawen and Jhon Kenneth Tesoro hailed as Balili Elementary School’s Mr. and Ms. Used Eco-Art 2019 last Oct. 29, 2019 at the La Trinidad Municipal Gym in Km 5, La Trinidad, Benguet.

Mr. and Ms. Used Eco-Art is a fundraisin­g project organized by the General Parent Teacher Associatio­n of Balili Elementary School, headed by associatio­n president

Nick Wayet. This year’s theme “Mundo’y pahalagaha­n, basura’y pakinabang­an” (value the Earth, benefit from trash) showcased the talents of the learners and parents in creating fashionabl­e clothes made from recycled materials.

It was encouraged that the recycled clothes should be wearable and reusable. Educating the learners on proper waste management was also one of the objectives of the activity because the learners were assigned to bring different recyclable materials that will be used in the constructi­on of their candidate’s fashionabl­e clothes.

The activity also aims to raise a fund for the repair and if possible, constructi­on of new comfort rooms for the learners of Balili Elementary School, in response to research findings that a welldesign­ed and a clean school comfort rooms can enhance learner’s health, deter misbehavio­r and conserve resources. With this, schools then should carefully design and maintain the cleanlines­s of their comfort rooms to provide a safe, clean and child-friendly restroom facilities.

First runners-up for primary level (Kindergart­en to Grade 3) were Mkadesh Tamtamoy and Jaize Evanreed Lang- ay with partners Angel Bang-o and Joshua Lodos emerged as second runners-up.

In the intermedia­te level (Grades 4 to Grades 6), Angel Faith Murphy and Ryuzhel Carreon reigned as Mr. and Ms. Used Eco-Art. Yhuri Sachi Libag and Adrian Kurt Pakian, on the other hand, emerged as first runners-up followed by second runners-up Sigrid Ullani and Reymark Morales.

Winners of the activity received a sash, crown, a plaque of recognitio­n, and an honor to serve as the role model to their schoolmate­s in promoting the 4-R’s of waste management (reuse, reduce, recycle, repair) not only in school but also in the whole Barangay Balili.
