Bakun NHS-main SSG launches 2nd Extension Education Program
“KAHINAAN MO, Iaangat Ko” program is a school initiated activity of the Supreme Student Government (SSG) officers in partnership with Humanities and Social Sciences (Humms) students.
The said activity is being conducted annually at Tap-ayao–Abiyang Elementary School at Beyeng Extension, Poblacion in Bakun, Benguet as an adopted school of SSG and being launched during the love month of the year.
The beneficiary school is a multigrade school composed of one permanent teacher and three municipal paid teachers to cater the needs of 45 persevering and enthusiastic learners. This education program was participated by 15 SSG officers and 24 Humss students of Bakun National High School– main on Feb.17.
This extension education program aims to (a) Reach out to school children who are in need; (b) Help school beneficiaries in enhancing their learning classroom to be more conducive for learning; (c) Improve learning and self-management of the SSG officers and members; (d) Develop the personality of aspiring young leaders on self-confidence in relation to social integration.
This extension program is one mode of implementing “AdoptSchool Program” through the initiation of student leaders to share little things and services. It is also one method of career guidance advocacy to encourage graduating students to enroll in our institution for the next school year.
Conducting schoolbased extension programs and other related activities have significant benefits in influencing and molding every learner to face challenges towards individual growth as well as the school itself. The extension activities are relevant to both student leaders as the participants and to the beneficiary as well. This activity was planned in accordance to the programs and activities of the Department of Education under the youth formation division. This will enable SSG officers to reach out to learners who need assistance in terms of health, numeracy and literacy, enhancement of the contextual learning, nutritional status, coping mechanisms, encouragement and benevolence among learners. Moreover, SSG officers would also be exposed in exercising their leadership skills in helping the young learners to become good citizens in the future.
SSG officers will be trained to be compassionate in their own hearts and personality. The may help students know basic needs of the society and realize issues in their community.
Indeed, the activity is so fulfilling for the month of love since it was celebrated in a most cherishing moment. Aside from tutoring the learners in the core subjects such as English, science, math and edukasyon sa pagpapakatao (EP), the team also offered foot spa and beauty and nail care services to parents, teachers, and stakeholers in the community that satisfied the eagerness of the team to perform and share their skills learned from school. Further, the learners received basic health kits and Information Education Campaign materials to combat different illnesses that can cause absenteeism.
Reaching out to the simple needs of teachers is also a pleasure and an avenue for these Senior High School Students to be engaged in the real world, connecting to people, and developing effective teachinglearning strategies that might help them in the future.
As the saying goes, “Leaders became great, not because of the power, but because of their ability to empower others”. So thus with these learners, they do not aim to be an out -ofschool youth but dream to become a successful individual.
