Baguio seeks flu vaccines

THE CITY Council on Monday asked the Department of Health and the City Health Services Office to procure anti - flu and pneumonia vaccine for adults and conduct massive vaccination drive through the district health office.

Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda during this week’s regular session said the present state of public health of emergency calls for responsive measures that will help protect the people from infection or reduce the chances of wider infection of the populace such as Covid – 19, an acute respiratory disease that has affected many worldwide.

“The dreaded Covid – 19 virus attacks the respiratory system of a person. While no vaccine has been developed against Covid – 19 up to the present, vaccines such as antiflu and anti-influenza vaccine may help reduce the chances of infection or reduce the risk of infection and morbidity,” Tabanda said.

On June 2, a health worker became the city's 35th Covid -19 active case as the city transitions into the modified general community quarantine.

At present, the city government is urging all to be even more vigilant and cautious because Covid-19 is still a threat to the health of the community.

Mass gatherings, community assemblies, non-essential work gatherings, and religious gatherings will remain prohibited while the city government is studying effective health and safety measures to protect the community.

“When professionally administered, the vaccine will help you produce anti bodies to strengthen the immune system against the influenza and pneumonia which are respiratory illnesses. Thus the vaccine may help protect the individual from contracting the Covid disease through the boosting of the immune system,” Tabanda added.
