Rolling stores to continue
THE SUMMER Capital continues to identify more areas in need of rolling stores as the city transitions to the modified general community quarantine (GCQ).
Councilor and Association of Barangay Council president Michael Lawana, said that the rolling store project will continue in a bid to limit number of people at the public city market.
The rolling store is aimed to bring goods closer to the people at the different barangays for residents to avoid travelling to central business district said Lawana, as residents
still face difficulties in going to the public market.
The ongoing project is backed by the city government with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Liga ng mga Barangays.
Lawana said rolling stores are scheduled on a weekly basis, while social distancing is strictly implemented in to avoid spreading the virus.
In Bakakeng Norte Sur, a rolling store selling meat, fish, vegetables, fruits, and groceries and other necessities was initiated on market day at the parking space of Holy Family Parish Church every Wednesday and Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Barangay Bakakeng Norte-Sur village chief Evelyn Balisong said the establishment of a barangay rolling store is to control the number of residents going out to town.
“This is initiated by our barangay but with due respect, I coordinated and informed The Mayor’s office about our project and I also informed Councilor Lawana, and they are so happy about what we have established. Yung mga ibang barangay ay organize ng Liga ng mga barangay at DTI, pero ito, this is our personal effort,” added Balisong.
Balisong said the barangay rolling store also aims to help the residents who are engaged in different businesses.
Barangay Bakakeng Norte-Sur has more than 10,000 residents with 33 registered vendors and 35 volunteers helping the barangay council to manage the market.
