HE Cagayan de Oro United Football ClubRosevale School booters recently conquered the Durian City of the South, bringing home the U14 title of the Araw ng Dabao Football festival held at the Tionko field in Davao City.

Manned by the core players of the Northern Mindanao Elementary team in the Bicol Palaro last year, the CdeO boys were so devastating in their conquest scoring a total of 46 goals in the seven-aside tournament organized by the Davao Regional Football Association of president Erwin Protacio.

Anchoring CdeO’s solid performances were goalkeeper Dave Mendoza and defenders Ino Butaslac and John Gementiza from Rosevale School.

The Oro kids swept their opponents without yielding even just a single goal.

They whipped the Davao Hyenas in the opener, 11-0; trounced the Black Knights, 8-0 and ended the elimination round with a 14-0 massacre of Davao Strikers to advance to the semis against the tough Davao Crocs FC.

Banking on the aggressive foursome of Lyle Dy and JL Cascara of Rosevale, Kent Quieta of Abba’s Montessori School and Zac Orate of Bukidnon, the Oro skybooters were unstoppable in shutting down Davao Crocs FC, 4-0 to arrange a title showdown with the Black Knights.

The Back Knights made it to the finals via a thrilling penalty shootout escape over the highly-touted Philippine Technological College.

Just the same, the Black Knights were simply overwhelmed by the Oro kids who fashioned out another mind-boggling 8-0 wind-up behind the balanced contribution of Jesse Bajaria of Bukidnon, Renz Arada of Rosevale and Andre Tagle of Xavier University.

Rosevale School’s 12U team were not as lucky, however, as their elder brothers. They lost in the semis against South Point School via penalty shootout after a thrilling 1-1 draw in the regulation.

It was a heart-breaking loss for coach Dennis Bongocan’s 12-under charges who finished the elimination round with a credible 3-1 win-loss record.

Comprising Rosevale School’s 12-under team were their scoring machines Vinson Manubag and Anton Bongocan with the strong back-up of Mamat Cascara, Andy Lugod, Mathew Cañete, Kurt Bernabe, Zander Sabio, Jared Tan and Ethan Biantan.

The Davao trip was sponsored by CdeO United FC officials Charles and Menchu Dy, Jeff Cascara, Ramon and Mai Arada, Mr and Mrs. Marlon Casas, Yves Marte Tapalla and the parents of Rosevale School, Dennis and Gay Bongocan, Vincent Manubag, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Savio, Mr. and Mrs. Cañete, Ian Lugod, and Mrs. Bernabe.
