3 caught violating Children’s Safety on Motorcycles Act

-

THE Davao City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) has recorded a total of three violators of the implementation of the Children's Safety on Motorcycles Act of 2015 rolled out this week, prohibiting small children from riding motorcycles along national roads and highways.

In an interview with CTTMO Chief Dionesio Abude said that the two violators were apprehended last July 12 in Toril District while the other one was on Thursday.

He said that they have already oriented the traffic enforcers about the provision of the newly-implemented law where they were directed to monitor and apprehend motorists who are carrying children who do not meet the standards of the law.

Under the Republic Act 10666 or the Children's Safety on Motorcycle Act of 2015, children who cannot set their feet on the base of the motorcycle and cannot wrap their hands around the waist of the driver will be banned from riding the motorcycle. Also, the child is required to wear the standard protective helmet or gear.

The violators will be charged P3,000 on first offense; P5,000 on second offense; and P10,000 on third offense and suspension of driver's license for a month while beyond that will be subject for revocation of the license.

He again reminded motorists not to allow children to travel onboard a two-wheeled vehicle because they are most vulnerable to accidents. The new law is seen to ensure that children passengers will be protected from accidents and their safety secured.
