Union Galvasteel Corporation carries out relief operations to Marawi evacuees

-

Union Galvasteel Corporation (UGC) employees across the country have donated cash and in kind to extend help to the people of Marawi City who have been attacked by the Maute Group last May 23, 2017. The terrorist attack has lessened the economic activities in the city and has displaced thousands of people.

UGC along with Cagayan de Oro College (COC Phinma) initiated Oplan Marawi Donation drive to gather help from different area nationwide. For UGC Alone, we were able to gather cash donations a total of P197, 800.

The goods were being transported to Iligan City for distribution last June 23, 2017 in coordination with COC HR and Bro. Bong Baylon Principal of La Salle Academy together with Mr. Andrew James Pamorada.

One of the remarkable values of UGCians is the will to serve their fellow Filipinos through the concept of bayanihan, holding on to our commitment, “Making Lives Better”.

As of this moment, there are only five major evacuation centers in Iligan City declared officially by DSWD. UGCians went to places that did not receive much help from the government and other NGOs.

The first recipient was the Moneerah Integrated School –a school turned into an evacuation site.

The second recipient was the Torel Compound. The building was supposedly a school but was turned also into an evacuation center.

In fact, an employee from UGC and some of the company’s business partners and its employees were not spared from the Marawi siege.
