Oro farmers benefit from agribusiness training
Around 30 farmers from Cagayan de Oro city graduated from the season-long training on selected vegetables agribusiness held on 7 July 2017.
The season-long training ran from March to July 2017 and was spearheaded by the Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) and the Landcare Foundation Philippines, in partnership with Normin Veggies Marketing Cooperative, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Cagayan de Oro City, and private stakeholders and supported by the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10).
With the theme, “Ang panguma isip usa ka negosyo, makauswag sa kinabuhi (farming as a business could improve life condition),” the training was participated by the members of the Canitoan Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative (CAFAMCO) and the Pagatpat Cagayan de Oro Farmers Association Incorporated (PACAFAI), in which they were taught on land preparation, soil sampling, and strategies on planting vegetables such as eggplant, tomato, string beans and ampalaya.
Retailers from Bulua and Cogon market are invited to visit the CAFAMCO learning site on July 12, 2017 to encourage them to buy vegetables from the farmers.
Regional Technical Director Carmelita T. Bajarla, representing DA-RFO 10 chief Carlene C. Collado, thanked the LGU, headed by city councilor and committee on agriculture chair Annie Y.
