Oro farmers benefit from agribusine­ss training

Around 30 farmers from Cagayan de Oro city graduated from the season-long training on selected vegetables agribusine­ss held on 7 July 2017.

The season-long training ran from March to July 2017 and was spearheade­d by the Australian Center for Internatio­nal Agricultur­al Research (ACIAR) and the Landcare Foundation Philippine­s, in partnershi­p with Normin Veggies Marketing Cooperativ­e, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Cagayan de Oro City, and private stakeholde­rs and supported by the Department of Agricultur­e – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10).

With the theme, “Ang panguma isip usa ka negosyo, makauswag sa kinabuhi (farming as a business could improve life condition),” the training was participat­ed by the members of the Canitoan Farmers Multipurpo­se Cooperativ­e (CAFAMCO) and the Pagatpat Cagayan de Oro Farmers Associatio­n Incorporat­ed (PACAFAI), in which they were taught on land preparatio­n, soil sampling, and strategies on planting vegetables such as eggplant, tomato, string beans and ampalaya.

Retailers from Bulua and Cogon market are invited to visit the CAFAMCO learning site on July 12, 2017 to encourage them to buy vegetables from the farmers.
