Condominium wall collapses in Baguio

-

THE retaining wall of tower condominium collapsed Saturday afternoon, July 29, as feared by residents months ago.

Tower condominium is beside the ongoing construction of the beleaguered Suntrust Properties Inc., which is in the thick of building a high rise structure along the Gibraltar area.

Councilor Maylen Yaranon, chair of the committee on public works said if no agreement is made with Suntrust and the management of Tower Condominium, the council will have to summon them anew to resolve the issue of the collapsed retaining wall.

Yaranon said Suntrust may reason the incident was caused by a force majeure.

“Ang sasabihin naman ng tower, dati ng binabagyo, hindi gumuguho dahil kung hindi sila nag hukay, hindi guguho,” added Yaranon.

Yaranon said it is best for the company (Suntrust) to shoulder all expenses and damages so the situation will not get out of hand.

“They have to use expensive engineering solutions ASAP (as soon as possible),” added the architect lawmaker.

In mid June, the management of Suntrust said a 60-day period to correct the collapsed part of Gibraltar road will ensue and hope to finish ahead of schedule if the weather permits.

Councilor Michael Lawana, also a member of the public works committee in a statement said they will review the supposed action and see if the company abided with agreement.

Previously, Suntrust has been probed on the collapse of the government road and attributed the incident to factors leading to faulty pipes installed by Department of Public Works and Highways contractor GA Flores.

The incident has been taken up in the City Council with a monitoring team composed of line agencies checking on the project and the safety of residents and motorists. (Sun-Star Philippines)
