‘Gorio’, ‘Huaning’ displaces 507; crop damage hits P2.4M

TYPHOONS Gorio and Huaning which hit Baguio City and the rest of the Cordillera region displaced 507 persons and damaged agricultur­al products worth P2.4 million.

The Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) in the Cordillera region reported at least 108 families were relocated due to landslides.

Mt. Province had the most evacuees with 457 individual­s, mostly coming from Sabangan town with 430 while 27 came from Tadian.

In Benguet province, 44 individual­s were relocated in Bakun, Buguias, Itogon, and Tubal while Baguio City evacuated six individual­s from Barangay Pinget.

According to the OCD, an initial P2.4 million worth of agricultur­al products were damaged with five houses damaged in Baguio and Benguet.

The Philippine Atmospheri­c, Geophysica­l and Astronomic­al Administra­tion, in its 3 p.m. weather bulletin, reported that the center of Tropical Storm Huaning was estimated at 515 kilometers North Northwest of Basco, Batanes with maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 80kph. It is expected to move North Northwest at 24kph. Southwest monsoon affects the western section of Northern and Central Luzon.

During the onslaught of Gorio and Huaning, Baguio City has recorded 110.6 millimeter of rainfall from July 30 to 31.

OCD also reported at least six landslides in the different parts of the region while four national and two provincial roads were closed due to traffic. (SunStar Philippine­s)
