Bukidnon housewives turn entrepreneurs thru DOST program
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) through the Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) in Bukidnon has paved the way for the housewives in Barangay Tubigon, Maramag to sustainably earn by turning them into entrepreneurs.
Recently, PSTC – Bukidnon in partnership with LGU – Maramag held a four-day hands-on workshop for the women in Purok 4, Barangay Tubigon, Maramag, Bukidnon as part of the Great Women Project of DOST. The Product Development Workshop was held within the community on July 24-27 and was participated by the members of Pulangi Watershed Handicraft Producers Association (PWHPA).
Equipped with the right machineries, PSTC – Bukidnon led the workshop through Ms. Remia ‘Remy’ Adedoja, proprietor of Remdavies Enterprises and her colleague Mr. Edwin C. Custodio.
Ms. Remy, as she is often called, shared her day-to-day learnings and best practices of her business based in Los Baños, Laguna, in hope of inspiring the women to pursue the water hyacinth business. She was very meticulous when it comes to evaluating the products of the participants since she wants to hone them to be one of the exporters in this industry. She believes that it is the quality that brought the international market closer to their business. She shared to the group how by simply weaving dried stems of waterlilies brought her to her success. Ms. Remy is also a recipient of the Great Women Project 2 through DOST PSTC – Laguna. Currently, she goes all over the country to train women and develop their handicrafts- making skills.
