AIRFORCE, NAVY SPIKERS COMING FOR FIESTA TILT

The Mayor’s Cup volleyball tourney lures in 32 teams

SOME 32 teams from all over the country have signified to participat­e in the 2017 Mayor Oscar S. Moreno Volley men and women’s open tournament set to kick off here on Friday at the Corpus Christi Gymnasium in brgy. Macasandig.

Organizer Alex Adeva said this is the biggest volleyball tournament to ever unfold in the City of Golden Friendship.

From the 32 teams, Adeva said that 17 of them will see action in the men’s division.

The Philippine Air Force spikers from Manila will lead a strong cast in men’s bracket alongside with two finest teams from the Philippine Navy.

It has also MJC-Manila, RG Legends-Cebu, DVO Optima-DVO, Iligan Medical Center College, Butuan Balanghay Warriors, Libertad and Pagzar VClub of Pagadian among the out-of-town contenders.

Local bets out to defend turf include Guibone XprezCDO, Good Health-CDO, Exodus CDO, Pilgrim Christian College, CDO Youth, Unified Balibolist­a CDO and USTSP CDO.

Close to 15 teams have also confirmed to join in the women’s open division.

Philippine Airforce Manila will field two teams in women’s division as among the must-watch teams along with the Philippine Navy.

Out-of-town teams taking the challenge are DVO Optima Davao, Philippine National Police Davao, Iligan Medical Center College and Iligan lady Spartans.

Megantech, so far the best team in the locality, will lead the cast of Oro bets along with Good Health, Pilgrim Christian College, Guibone Xprez, Jepoy Surplus, Aj Spiker, CDO Youth and USTSP.

“So far by history, mao ni ang pinaka dako ug pasalamat ta nga naay taga laing lugar nikompirma,” Adeva told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.
