Bandolis, Baulete show the way in Kapatagan leg

- By LYNDE SALGADOS SINGLES EVENT

WITH the fancied Oro netters nowhere in sight, the Lanao del Norte bets literally turned the Kapatagan leg of the 2017 Cebuana Lhuillier Age Group Tennis Tournament into their exclusive domain with the female pair of Kristine Guia Margarrette Bandolis and Rovie Baulete leading the onslaught.

Bandolis of nearby Tubod town almost blanked Kapatagan lass Jamie Insong in two-set conquest, 6-1, 6-0 to nail the 12-under girls title, then whipped another homeground girl Girly Mae Insong, 6-3, 6-2 for the 14-under girls crown.

The Iligan City native Baulete, on the other hand, capitalized on the absence of Iligan City leg ruler Mary Aubrey Calma of Cagayan de Oro to duplicate Bandolis’ double-whammy feat.

Baulete defeated Iligan City compatriot Anna Mae Mendoza both in the 16-under girls (6-3, 6-4) and 18-under girls (3-6, 6-1, 10-8) finals.

Tournament organizer Mario Inguito Craiz said the Group 2 event in Kapatagan, slated Aug. 18-22 and attracted 138 entries, was in lieu of the MSU, Marawi City leg apparently aborted owing to the ongoing siege in downtown Marawi.

Other winners are Vinz AJ Bering of Kapatagan (unisex 10-under), Nash Agustines of Oroquieta City ( 12-under boys), Eric Jay Tangub of Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur (14-under boys), Stephen Zion Guia of Dipolog City (16-under boys) and John Steven Sonsona of Tubod (18-under boys).
