Oro’s Jumamoy becomes first Oro Fiba referee
JAYPEE Ralph C. Jumamoy is just among the ordinary but busy teachers at City Central School in Cagayan de Oro.
Lately, the 31-year-old Jumamoy or Pepoy as his friends call him is still in cloud nine after he became the first Oro FIBA referee.
This, after Jumamoy passed the FIBA countrybased license referee examinations last March held at the Philippine Sports Commission’s Sports Complex in Pasig City.
Jumamoy served as teacher II and subject teacher in the oldest elementary school in the city.
He was also instrumental in the build-up of the City Central Stingers, who
remained unscathed in the ongoing 2nd CdeO Inter-Public School Basketball Tournament.
Jumamoy started his officiating career in 2009 with the SBP-MBROA, then established by lawyer Hilario Roy Raagas and its chairman Dan Jaminal.
The elementary teacher was the only one among seven examinees who passed in the license seminar.
“Overwhelming akong nabati kay kinahanglan pasaron nako ang physical ug written examinations,” said Jumamoy.
He credited his feat to his mentor Raul Fuentes, who is a senior referee and also a teacher like him at the Indahag National High School.
“Dako kaayo ko og nakuha ni sir Raul kay halos lecture niya pare-parehas lang ang nigawas sa written examinations nga situational,” Jumamoy further said.
Jumamoy also acknowledged Jerome Gican Tulang as vital in his preparations.
MBROA congratulated Jumamoy who followed in the footsteps of Jaminal, Oro’s first professional licensed referee during the Metro Basketball Association (MBA) days in mid-90s.
