Rosevale School, XU rule West 1 football
ROSEVALE School boys and Xavier University girls yesterday dominated the football events in the Cagayan de Oro West 1 District meet held at Rosevale School pitch at the Xavier Estates.
The boys of coaches Dennis Bongocan and Mario Sumampong were undefeated in the Secondary Boys and Elementary Boys categories respectively to insure their entry to the CdO Division Meet set next month.
Xavier University Girls of coach Dhon Lazo were also undefeated in the Girls Futsal competition to make it to the Division Meet.
Rosevale School was unstoppable scoring lopsided victories in both categories. The Rosevale Elementary boys were first to qualify as they dumped West City Central School in both matches of their best-of-three tussle scoring seven goals in their first clash and another seven goals in their next match. WCCS scored one goal in their second match from the penalty.
Scoring the goals for Rosevale School were Sam Salingay, Anton Bongocan and Vinson Manubag.
The Rosevale Boys High School team was also too much for the Liceo University High School team scoring seven goals in their last outing of the three team competition.
Earlier last Saturday, Rosevale also defeated Xavier University 3-0, to seal its entry to the CdO Division meet. Liceo also suffered a 6-0 defeat against Xavier University.
Scoring machine and new recruit from Bukidnon, Jeff Bayron led the Rosevale Comets scoring two goals
against XU.
Pio Alenton scored the other goal in an action filled match which was controlled by Rosevale from start to finish. Bayron, Lyle Dy and Christian Zorilla also scored in their 7-0 romp of Liceo.
The Rosevale girls were not very lucky in the Girls Futsal category as their lost all their matches. What added to the problems of newly installed coach Julliene Gerona was the absence of her captain Girlie Bongocan who re-injured her knee in their clash against XU.
XU relied on the lone goal of striker Zippy Medalla against a very strong Liceo squad of coach Manny Ignacio to secure their victory and a place in the CdO Division meet.
XU also won against St. Mary’s Acadmey 2-0, Rosevale School 2-0. Liceo University was second with wins over Rosevale School 7-0, and St. Mary’s Academy 2-0.
