CORPUZ...

10 and 9 points, respectively. Corpus B opened the game with a fierce 13-0 run before ending the first period at 22-10.

The game was briefly interrupted after St. Mary’s coach Rene Ilogon lodged a protest against two Corpus players who were also playing in the 17-under division.

Table officials acknowledged the protest, though they leave it to tournament commissioner Gilbert “Loloy” Estroga for arbitration. One of the referees said Estroga gave them the green light to play in two divisions.

As the game continued, Corpus B dictated the whole match but experienced a bit of turbulence in the third quarter.

The duo of Laurence Alcantara and Jed Mercado propelled a rally in that period, but could only close the gap at 16.

From there, they never looked back to remain unscathed with 3-0 win-loss card in bracket B. SMS followed at 2-1.

In the 17-under, St. Mary’s started strong, even erecting a mind-boggling 20-point lead at the half.

The XUHS hoopsters of coach Manny Diaz retaliated in the third quarter but could only cut the huge deficit to 12.

St. Mary’s improves to 2-1, while XUHS drops at 1-2.

Macasandig National High School, on the other hand, scored its first win at the expense of Iponan National High School, 63-49.
