Security measures fortified

- By Alwen Saliring

LOCAL police is set to implement tough security measures amid assumptions of terror and lawless attacks in time for the observance of the All Saints and All Souls Day on November 1 and 2.

The “Security Plan: Kalagkalag 2017” is set to take effect at 8:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 31 and will end at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, November 2.

Chief Inspector Mardy Hortillosa II, spokesperson of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo), said all police station chiefs have already been directed to act as security commanders in carrying out the safety and security plan in their respective jurisdiction.

Hortillosa said it is expected that thousands of people will visit the graves of their departed loved ones in public and private cemeteries in the city.

“Naa na tay security plan and ready na ang deployment sa mga major thoroughfares. Mag start ang deployment sa Oct.31 hangtod sa Nov. 2 pero dili mobiya ang mga police hangtod naa pay tawo sa sementeryo,” Hortillosa said.

Hortillosa said authorities will be stricter in the conduct of security inspection especially at the foot of the different cemeteries since the city was assumed to be under terror and bombing threat as pronounced by President Rodrigo Duterte recently.

He said all police personnel have been ordered not to let their guard down to prevent any form of criminal and terror offensives.

The Cocpo spokesman also said intelligence gathering was also intensified to thwart plans of terrorists and lawless elements.

‘Mas strikto karon ang pagpatuman nato sa seguridad kay kabalo man ta nga gi-assume nato na ang mga threats whether tinuod ug dili dili man ta magkumpyansa,” Hortillosa said.

Hortillosa said Cocpo will be asking for additional police force from the regional headquarters to help safeguard people who will be flocking to the cemeteries, including tourist destinations, terminals and ports.

“Nanguli na baya tong 70 kabuok police from Region 3 nga na-assign dinhi sa CDO so mangayo gyud tag dugang pwersa para maka-assist sa ato,” Hortillosa said.

Authorities are once again reminding the public of the items prohibited at the cemeteries that include bladed weapons, entertainment devices that may disturb others, alcoholic beverages, guns, and illegal drugs.

The public are also urged to report to authorities any suspicious personalities or movements so that any incident will be prevented.

Police stations were instructed to put up assistance desk where people can immediately seek for help.

Homeowners are also advised to secure their houses when leaving them unattended.

“Ang security dili lang trabaho sa police kay dili sa tanan higayon naa ang police sa kiliiran busa magbinantayon gyud ang katawhan nga kung naay suspicious nga mabantayan, i-report dayon sa otoridad,” Hortillosa said.
