40 structures along Coastal face demolition

The city government has started the profiling of residents from Barangay Gusa to Agora, Barangay Lapasan who will be affected by the opening of the Coastal Road Project on November 15.

Lawyer Edgardo Uy, chief of the Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA), said the clearing operations will proceed as planned and will not be hampered by any resistance from affected residents.

But Uy said the city will provide relocation sites to the affected residents.

He said the Office of the Building Official (OBO) has already started giving out notices to all the owners of the affected structures, permanent or temporary, along the Agora-Valenzuela junction.

Records from OBO show that about 40 structures will be affected in the clearing operations of the RTA and police.

“Nagstorya karon ang City Housing and Urban Development Department (CHUDD), ug ang City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) kay ato silang gi-request, para maaddress kung kinsa kadtong mga residente na maapektohan, nga mahatagan ug relocation,” Uy said.

“Of course we expect resistance so this is why we are also trying to hear them, kay wala naman gyuy mabuhat ato gyud iclearing dihang dapita para wider ang maagian because we are expecting big trucks to pass by the area,” he added.

Uy said the RTA is also crafting a traffic scheme to regulate parking

for private vehicles and another scheme for the regulation of trisikad vehicles in the area.

Engineer Leowald Pecore of DPWH10, meanwhile, said there are still at least 4 road right-of-way issues that need to be addressed in the coastal road area in Barangay Puntod.

“Ang atong coastal road has two parts, the eastern and western side. Ang western side nagsugod diha sa Puntod to Kauswagan Bridge paingon sa Igpit, which is already 100 percent complete, the eastern side nalang ang kulang nga mao ang Gusa to Puntod area, but it is already 90%,” Pecore said.

“Hopefully kung ma release atong pondo na buo sa last quarter next year, posible na makompleto ug makonekta ang Gusa paingon sa Igpit,” he added.

City Mayor Oscar Moreno, for his part, has asked assistance from the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) for the clearing operations “to ensure the safety of the residents.”

He also asked the public’s patience, pointing out that, in order to manage traffic flow properly, the city will have to study, analyze, and experiment different traffic schemes.

“This development is also a breakthrough for us, usa raman gud ka highway atong naandan, now, naa nay idugang alternative sa coastal road. We welcome and look forward to this project kay this would surely improve the traffic situation in the city,” he said.
