Costal Road to open Friday

-

Clearing operations at the GusaAgora stretch of the Coastal Road, set to open to buses, trucks, and private vehicles this Friday, November 10, will begin today according to an official of the Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA).

RTA chief lawyer Edgardo Uy said some of the affected residents had been voluntarily demolishing their structures and houses since yesterday.

Uy said initially, they have identified at least 13 houses which will be demolished today. He said owners of these houses have either evacuated or had gone to relatives to seek temporary shelter.

He said residents are unlikely to resist the demolition but said they are not taking any chances and that security measures in the area of the demolition will be heightened.

“The city has evacuation centers ug samtang gapaabot sa relocation site, hatagan nato sila ug ayuda kay dili na gyud sila pwede diha,” he said.

After the formal opening of the road on Friday, Uy said only buses, trucks, including private vehicles will be allowed to pass the coastal road.

He said, public utility jeepneys (PUJs) will remain in their usual route at CM Recto Avenue while the RTA is still crafting a new traffic scheme for public vehicles.

An inter-agency coordination committee

which includes the Department of Public Works and Highways, RTA, City Social Welfare and Development, Cagayan de Oro City Police Office, Office of the Building Official, fire department, and the barangay units of Lapasan and Gusa, was created to spearhead the planning of the clearing operations.
