Coastal Road now open
The Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA) has announced a new traffic scheme for major streets in Barangay Lapasan for the opening of the 4- kilometer coastal road today, November 10.
Hapsay Dalan chief and RTA overseer lawyer Edgardo ‘Egay’ Uy, said the traffic scheme will be implemented starting today but will be open to changes if issues arise.
Uy said they will field more traffic enforcers today in the area to inform motorists of the new traffic scheme, which includes the strict implementation of no parking and the prohibition of trisikads, motorized sikad, and colorum tricabs.
The stretch from Gusa to Agora of the coastal road as well as Valenzuela and Gaabucayan streets have been declared no parking zones by the RTA.
The bus stop in front of the Capitol University Medical Center (CUMC)
has been moved to Barangay Cugman across Uratex, some 1.3 kilometers away from the coastal road and the JR Borja Avenue Junction.
The prohibition of all types of sikads will also be effective in the coastal road, Gaabucayan Street, and Valenzuela Street.
Uy warned sikad drivers that their makeshift cabs will be confiscated is found plying the streets where they are prohibited.
“Bawal na gyud ang sikad diha na area, ug long-term plan na kini siya kay ang molabay diha big trucks and buses so delikado gyud kaayo kung galabay-labay sila diha basin maka-cause pa ug aksidente,” Uy said.
Uy however said not all trucks and buses might be allowed to pass the coastal road, as this would case heavy traffic in Corrales Avenue and Julio Pacana Street.
“Atong tan-awon kung madala tanan sila maka-agi, kaya ang atong gi-anticipate basin dili na kalihok ang Corrales ug Julio Pacana kung tanan ipaagi sa coastal road to Valenzuela street to Agora area,” he said.
“It still depends on our dry run today, we will do our best to manage traffic,” he said.
The dry run will commence this morning until just before the inauguration ceremonies set at 1:30 pm today with Public Works Secretary Mark Villar, Department of Public Works and Highways officials, and city government officials.
