THE construction of the Dusit Thani residence and hotel complex in Davao City is slated to be completed by the end of 2018, an executive of the Torre Lorenzo Development Corporation (TLDC) said.

The mixed-used development will house the Dusit Thani Residence Davao and dusitD2 Hotel, both of which are set to open their doors by 2019 after the completion in 2018.

"This is Davao's first luxury five-star development that rivals international projects and those at the Bonifacio Global City, Makati City, or Pasig City," said Tomas Lorenzo, TLDC CEO, during the topping off ceremony at the project site yesterday, November 9, 2017.

He added that the development will bring up the standards of living in Davao City to make it truly an international city.

"DusitD2 Hotel is a very trendy lifestyle hotel for the young and young at hearts and for those looking for the ultra-luxury, we have the Residences," Lorenzo said.

The Dusit Thani Residence Davao and dusitD2 Hotel will offer a view of the Davao Gulf as well as a sprawling, 360-degree view of the entire community and skyline of the city.

The complex offers 174 spacious full-service residence units and 120 hotel rooms that reflect the elegance, simplicity, and comfort that define the Dusit signature style.

The development will also feature a 1,000-capacity ballroom and function rooms.

Meanwhile, the residents will have housekeeping, laundry and personal concierge services at their disposal, as well as access to hotel-like amenities such as a Dusit spa, exclusive pools, specialty dining outlets, a business center and fitness area.

“It is a place that will blend work and leisure seamlessly with the combination of the finest amenities and world-renowned exceptional service that is distinctly Dusit. We will have a first-class destination that Davao can proudly call its own,” Lorenzo said.

Lorenzo also said they sourced many of their materials from local suppliers like for their doors.

"There are suppliers from Davao City that we are sourcing from. We go for the local suppliers that have international standards," he said.

For her part, Evelyn Singson, Vice Chair and President of the Philippine Hoteliers Incorporated, which owns and operates the Dusit Thani franchise in the Philippines, said the presence of Dusit Thani Residence Davao and dusitD2 Hotel will raise the bar for the hotel industry in Davao City.

"It will upgrade the accommodation industry here. All the hotels that are operating here for sure will have to upgrade and renovate if they he Philippines needs to boost its competitiveness and the capability of its local industries by modernizing production activities to fully benefit from the huge opportunities of the economic integration by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

As the country hosts the ASEAN Leaders' summit this week, Foreign Buyers Association of the Philippines (FOBAP) president Robert Young said modernization involves digital

IN countries like Australia, UK, Singapore, and Malaysia, switching to a different telecom provider doesn't mean one has to switch numbers. The Philippine government's anti-trust body is pushing for local telcos to do the same.

Through mobile number portability (MNP), the Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) wants telcos in the country to allow mobile phone users to keep their own contact numbers whenever they switch networks. will want to remain competitive and all new hotels that will come in will have to match the quality and standards Dusit is setting," she said.

Singson added that the Dusit brand here will allow Davao City to cater to all

PCC has already submitted recommendations to Congress and on Tuesday pushed for the inclusion of the MNP system in Senate Bill No. 1237 during a public hearing by the Committee on Economic Affairs. Prior to this, it also recommended the inclusion of MNP in the franchise renewals of Now Telecom Company Inc., and Smart.

At present, mobile number retention is not available among telco providers, which may compel subscribers to kinds of markets, especially the luxury market.

She said Dusit Thani Residence Davao and dusitD2 Hotel will offer the best of both worlds of Thai and Filipino service.

"The Thai tradition, hold on to a provider despite poor service.

PCC Chairman Arsenio M. Balisacan emphasized the predicament of consumers in the country's telco players, who because of few choices, have “become prisoners to the network.” “In this age when a person's phone number is considered part of one's identity, changing numbers can sometimes mean lost opportunities, access, or connections. If MNP is in place, a person can retain one's number known for its gentleness, grace, and kindness, will be combined with what is knowingly ours – our vibrancy, our gaiety, and our warm-heartedness. Leveraging on a seamless combination of traditional Thai without having to worry about that,” said Balisacan in a statement.

“Consumers should want to stay in a network because of good service and not just because they want to keep their longstanding numbers. When disgruntled consumers want to bolt to a new or another network provider, having MNP in place means people are not prisoners of the network simply because they want to keep their digits,” the official added. and Filipino hospitality for this first-class development means that we will be bringing something more than what can already be found in the city," Singson said in a statement. PCC said MNP can also deter scams wherein strangers who stole or inherited an old number prey on one's contacts who have not been informed on the latter's network switch.

Balisacan said having the MNP in place will push competition in the country's telco industry where very few players participate. Having more competition will generally lead to better service and affordable rates. SunStar Philippines
