OBL-Prestone Cup attracts some 16 teams in CdO leg

Some 16 local youth teams are entered in the 1st Online Basketball League Prestone Cup Cagayan de Oro city leg at the Lapasan gym this city.

Eight teams each in the 12 Under and 15 Under categories saw action over the weekend with Online Basketball Training Center OBTC regional director Rommel Dellosa managing the tournament.

Lapasan Bgry. Chairman Omar DC Labuntog was the guest of honor during the opening last Saturday.

Teams joining in the 12 Under category are Living Springs Institute of Technology, East City Central School, City Central School, Don Mariano Canoy College, Rosario Elementary School of Tagoloan, West Central City School, and Merry Child School.

In the 15 Under category, teams competing are Merry Child School, Rosario National High School of Tagoloan, Kauswagan National High School, Cugman National High School, Living Springs Institute of Technology, Lapasan National High School, Pilgrim Christian College, Tablon National High School, and Millennium Christian Academy.

The teams are divided into two groups with the top two teams in each group advancing to the crossover semis. The winners in the semis will then advance to the finals while the losers to the battle for third.

The winners in the Cagayan de Oro leg will advance to the national finals in Cebu City. The dates for the national finals have not yet been finalized.

The tournament is a project of former PBA player and OBTC founder Mark Anthony Tallo. He is also the father of Macmac Tallo, the new recruit of the Talk and Text team in the Philippine Basketball Associatio­n (PBA). The young Tallo was the first pick of the Manuel V. Pangilinan (MVP) franchise during the recent PBA annual draft. He was 10th overall.

Online Basketball­s Training Camp has been training young basketball hopefuls in Cebu city for more than 10 years now. Tallo came to CdO last summer and taught young kids basic basketball skills for a week also at the Lapasan gym.
