ALUMNI 1995 defeated again the defending champion Batch 1994, 68-62 in the ongoing 8th XUHS-ABA Basketball Tournament at the Xavier University High School covered courts, Pueblo de Oro.

XUHS 1999, on the other hand, marked its sixth straight winning streak after besting Gamba 1997, 59-53.

Jan-Jan Geroy fired 16 points for the 95ers, while Shantao Moreno and James Gaston contributed 15 and 13 markers, respectively.

XUHS 94 and 95 went to a tight battle in the entire four quarters.

From a 53-50 Batch 1994 lead in the fourth quarter, Geroy hit a 3-pointer to give Batch 95 the momentum with still 5:09 minutes left.

Gascon and Moreno then joined Geroy in the fray for a 7-2 run and a 5-point lead for the 95ers.

Batch 1994 closed the gap by three after Rocky Calingin sank a trey with 1:20 minute.

But, 1995 managed to hold on in the dying seconds to nab the number one spot in the St. Francis Xavier Cup division with 11-2 win-loss card.

Five-time ABA champion XUHS 99 has already been assured of the final fourth seat in the St. Peter Faber Cup after beating Gamba.

The 99ers dictated the game with a 16-point lead at the end of the third quarter, 45-29.

Gamba unleashed a late rally in the fourth quarter but they could only close to within three with 28 seconds remaining.

Gamba missed the services of Niku Benson Valles and ex-PBA star Bitoy Omolon.

“Blessing in disguise ang pagkapilde sa 97 kay lisod kung magnumero uno sila ug naa ang 99 sa ikaupat kay sure mag-abot sila sa crossover labina walay makasiguro kanila,” said commissioner Dhon Lazo.

In other results, Jammers 2005 remains on top of the leaderboard in the St. Ignatius de Loyola Cup after a 77-58 win over IAM 98.

XUHS 2000 also defeated Xavier United, 74-68.
