Milan will take a `short break’

CAGAYAN de Oro City pride Milan Milendo will take a short break from the ring after his defeat to Japanese champion Ryonichi Taguchi during their unificatio­n title bout last December 31 in OtaCity General Gymnasium, Japan.

The 31-year-old Taguchi defended his WBA Super World light flyweight title and, at the same time, stripped Milendo’s IBF World light flyweight belt via unanimous decision.

Two judges scored 117111 and the other 116-111 all in favor to the taller Japanese boxer.

Taguchi now totes a 26-22 win-loss-draw record, while handing Milendo of his third loss in 40 profession­al fights.

The 29-year-old Milendo, in a chance encounter with this writer, said he will stay away from the ring for a while and focus on personal matters and leave everything to his promoter Michael Aldeguer, the CEO of ALA Boys Promotions, boxing-wise.
