PVO: Prices of meat products up

-

PRICES of meat products in Negros Occidental have increased, based on the latest monitoring of the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO).

Latest Prevailing Market Price Report of PVO released Thursday, January 11, showed the price of beef rose by P0.86 per kilogram.

From only P232.38 during last week’s monitoring, the price went up to P233.24 per kilogram.

A kilogram of pork costs P197.24, or an increase of P1.29 from only P195.95 last week.

PVO also noted an increase of P2.09 per kilogram in the price of chevon (goat meat). From P277.69, it rose to P279.78 per kilogram.

Prices of dressed broiler and native chicken also increased by P0.78 and P1.50 per kilogram, respectively. Broiler now averagely costs P156.74 per kilogram from the previous P155.96.

Native chicken is sold at P215.10 per kilo from only P213.60 before.

The increase may be attributed to lower demand in the market, Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena said.

Consumers also prefer other protein sources over meat products, he added.
