Cocpo to tap security guards in anti-criminalit­y drive

DAVAO City Police Office Director Alexander Tagum noted that there was a huge drop of index crimes in the city following the hiring of auxiliary cops last year.

A total of 910 auxiliary cops were hired by the city for Oplan Integrated Revitalize­d Operation of Neighborho­od -Watch for the Mega City (Iron City), an upgraded integrated police patrol system aimed at making the city safer through the support of volunteer police auxiliarie­s and was officially launched last May 22, 2017.

Tagum said data showed that index crimes such as rape, murder, homicide, kidnapping, robbery, rape, and all kind of crimes against persons and property since the hiring of the auxiliary cops.

Based on the data of DCPO on the eight focus crime comparison per month, 978 crimes were recorded from May (the month since the auxiliary officers started their duty) to December 2017 which is lower compared to the same period on 2016, which has a total record of 1,599 index crimes.

From January to March 2018, the DCPO recorded a total of 286 index crimes which is less than 456 index crimes recorded on the same period in 2017.

Also based on the separate tally of monthly crime volume comparativ­e crime trend, which includes index and non-index crimes, a dramatic change of crime rate was experience­d upon the deployment of the auxiliary cops.

From May to December 2017, the city recorded 4,735 index and non-index crimes, which is lower compared to 2016 data with 6,026 index and non-index crimes.

This year January to March data recorded 1,411 index and non-index crimes, which is lower compared to last year’s data for the same period with 1, 678 crimes.
