Oro’s Night School Program to benefit 40 street children

AROUND 40 children rescued from the streets of Cagayan de Oro will be receiving basic education as the City Government, through its City Social Welfare and Development, has allotted P200,000 budget for its Night School Program.

The Night School Program, in partnership with Xavier University, is a project of City Mayor Oscar Moreno to provide educational assistance, through alternative learning system, to street children for them to become respectable members of the society.

According to City Administrator Teodoro Sabuga-a Jr., who is also the head of CSWD, the financial assistance from the City Government will cover the meals, school supplies and other educational materials needed by the street children.

Under the module of the Night School Program, Sabuga-a said the students will be taught by teachers from Xavier University on basic education such as writing, reading, Math and Values, among others.

“It will not only stop there. This is just the first level sa ating elevation program,” Sabuga-a added.

The `lucky 40’ will be the first batch of street children who will undergo the Night School Program to be held at Xavier University campus from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Sabuga-a also mentioned that during the flag raising ceremony of the City Hall on Monday, April 16, the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) also offered basic computer learning to the module under the Night School Program.
