Mega Job Fair to facilitate 15T jobs

- By PJ Orias

Some 14, 975 job opportunities are available for the Mega Job Fair this May 1 and 2 at the Limketkai Atrium.

Done in line with the Labor Day celebrations, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) regional director lawyer Joffrey Suyao said they are expecting that there will be more job offerings before Tuesday.

Suyao said more companies are expressing their interest to join the two-day 116th Labor Day Jobs and Business Livelihood fairs.

There are now 118 companies, 96 are private firms, 13 are agencies for overseas work, and 9 are government agencies that are opening their doors for job seekers.

Most of the local job vacancies offered are from construction and call center companies, while most of the overseas manpower services are needed in the United Arab Emirates and middle-east countries.

Over 2,000 government positions are also waiting to be filled in this May 1.

The region-wide job and business fairs replicate the Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan concept forged by DOLE and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) which aims to bring employment opportunities through entrepreneurship for our workers in the informal sector. This is why livelihood projects within the province will also be showcased at the Limketkai Rotunda on May 1 and 2.

While the labor department is busy preparing for the labor day, militant labor group Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) in Northern Mindanao is all systems go for the big rally on the same day.

“All systems go na ta karong Mayo Uno. Papulahon nato ang Cagayan de Oro aron kundenahon si Duterte sa iyang pagtalikod sa

saad nga wagtangon na ang ENDO It’s all systems go for May 1. Let’s paint Cagayan de Oro red to condemnt Duterte for failing to fulfill his campaign promise to stop ENDO (end of contractualization)”, Wildon Barros said, spokesperson of KMU-NMR.

Barros said they will gather some 3,000 individuals coming from the labor force and have been victimized by the unfair labor practice.

It can be recalled that KMU and the Associated Labor Union-Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (ALU-TUCP) has agreed to form a tactical alliance to intensify calls for the Duterte administration to put an end to endo.

KMU has prepared a Duterte effigy named ‘BullyDog the ENDO lover’ to show to the public that the president’s mask had finally come off, showing his loyalty not to the masses but to big foreign businessmen.
