KMU-NMR: PDut’s EO sign on `endo’ is pointless

- By Alwen Saliring

THE progressive labor group Kilusang Mayo Uno in Northern Mindanao (KMU-NMR) is not happy and satisfied with the executive order against contractualization (ENDO) penned by President Rodrigo Duterte during yesterday’s Labor Day, saying it’s already useless.

KMU-NMR spokesperson Wildon Barros said the EO is pointless because it already covers the framework of Article 106 of the Labor Code which states that `laboronly contracting’ is illegal and only `job contracting’ is allowed.

Barros said the president’s EO is no longer needed because it is already stipulated in the labor code.

He said the president should instead order the labor department, which is the implementing arm, to take in full force and effect the said provision of the labor code.

“Ang EO is subay ra man gihapon sa article 106 sa labor code so useless na ang EO dapat mandoan sa presidente and DOLE nga ipatuman ang balaod,”Barros said.

Barros said capitalists and establishments will continue the practice of contractualization because the EO does not solve the entire problem on the workers’ aspiration for security of tenure.

He said the EO does not totally overhaul the problem on contractualization and the president remains protecting the interest of the capitalists.

Barros said the signing of EO is just a “show” of the president to make people and the workers believe that he has fulfilled his promise to put an end to ENDO.

“Pa-konswelo raman ni sa presidente aron ipakita sa mga workers nga iyang gituman kunohay iyang saad nga urongsulong siya sa pagpirma,”Barros said.

The labor group leader said they will continue to stage protest actions every time they monitor the practice of contractualization in different business establishments.
