3 died, 10 injured in highway collision

THREE people, including two children, died while 10 others were wounded in a passenger bus-tricycle head-on collision in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police said Tuesday.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zambaonga Peninsula informatio­n officer, said the incident occurred at 5:56 p.m. Monday, May 7, along the national highway at Sitio Suloan in Kimos village, Siay.

Galvez identified the fatalities as the following: Jovelyn Suico, 36; Justin Perarin, three; and Aila Suico, three.

Wounded and hospitaliz­ed were: Fernando De Guzman, 41; Jeneth Atilano, 39; Adrian Atilano, 12; Mica Atilano, eight; Tresha Mendoza, 15; Jenelyn Mendoza, 35; Angel Mae Suico; Nicole Mendoza, seven; and Janus Perarin, seven.

They were all passengers of the tricycle driven by De Guzman.

Another passenger, Jasper Reyes, was slightly injured but assisted the other victims in the hospital.

Galvez said De Guzman lost control of the steering bar of his tricycle upon encroachin­g the opposite lane and collided with the passenger bus.

She said no one among the 44 passengers of the bus and the driver and fare collector were hurt during the incident.

The victims came from a cemetery while the bus was traveling to Pagadia City coming from Zamboanga City at the time of the accident.
