Rehab, improvement of old school site for TESDA program ongoing

-

THE old Agusan National High School is now undergoing repair and rehabilitation in preparation for its use as the venue of the City Livelihood and Employment Training Facility, said Malou Corda of the Community Improvement Division Livelihood Team.

In an interview with The Power, Corda said, when the facility is ready, the first four TESDA courses that will be offered are Electrical, Welding Carpentry and Housekeeping. All other courses will be eventually offered to the public, she said.

It may be recalled that the 18th City Council headed by Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy enacted Ordinance No. 13425-2018, authorizing Mayor Oscar Moreno to enter into and sign the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the City Schools Division of Cagayan de Oro and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for the use of the old national high school for the city’s livelihood program.

This is in line with the commitment of the city government to provide its constituents with basic education and appropriate technical and skills development training to enable them to have the necessary competence and accreditation needed for their livelihood and employment requirements.

At present, livelihood trainings are conducted by the Cagayan de Oro City-Technical Education and Skills Development and Employment Committee (CDO-TESDEC) under the Community Improvement Division at the DepEd School Facilities for Housekeeping and Food and Beverage; the City Engineering Office-Depot premises for Carpentry and Masonry and the Westbound Terminal Building for Electrical Installation and Maintenance, Welding and Planning.

As cited in the MOA, the training center facility will integrate the various technical education and skills training and provide appropriate work-areas of various types of industries that are compliant to TESDA standards.

Vice Mayor Uy expresses hopes that with this development, more residents will be able to avail of the livelihood training program offered by the city government to improve their lives.
