MISAMIS Oriental Governor Yevgeny Emano over the weekend announced that the Provincial Government is allocating P50,000 for Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) empowerment in every village in the province.

Emano told the newly elected youth leaders that the allocation will equip and allow them to implement their own projects and programs for the youth in their respective barangays.

Some 1,368 SK officialselect in the province were sworn into office during the mass oath taking administered by the capitol’s top official at the provincial capitol grounds on Saturday, May 26.

“They just have to take care of the money. Duna pa man to pondo and kini sila hingkod naman sugdan na nato sila paghatag sa responsibilidad nga maka-implement sa ilang programs. Sila magbuhat sa program of works, bidding ug matudloan sila sa limpyong pangatungdanan (We still have funds and they are mature enough to be given responsibilities to implement their programs. They will be doing the program of works, bidding, and they will be learning how to do their duties),” Emano said.

“Naay gagmay’ng barangay nga dili maka-project kay walay pondo so kini makatabang sa SK nga at least makapatul-id sa ilang basketball court, day care center or makapananom sa kahoy (There are small villages that couldn’t implement projects due to the lack of funds so this will help the SK to at least be able to put up a basketball court, day care center or tree planting),” Emano added.

Emano also tapped the youth leaders to help fight the menace of dangerous drugs in their localities.

The governor acknowledged the influence of SK officials to their fellow young people as he challenged them to prioritize public service and set politics aside.

Emano also underlined the importance of youth leaders in economic development and nation building.

“These are young men and women who we should not corrupt minds and bring them to politics. Let us teach them public service not politics,”Emano said.

“Kung maayo ang pagdala ug pag-giya sa kabatan-onan mahimong makatabang sa ekonomiya ug kalamboan apan kung dili sab mahimong makaguba sa kaugmaon (If the youth are guided in the right direction, then the economy will improve but If they are steered in the wrong direction, it will destroy the future),” he added.

However, should the newly inducted SK leaders wish to be a member of Padayon Pilipino party, Emano said they will have to undergo seminar to understand the principles upheld by the political group which is rooted to sincere public service, especially to the poor and less fortunate masses in the society.

Emano challenged the SK officers to perform well in public service and avoid doing things that might force the government to dissolve anew the youth representation.

“Ang pagdaog sa eleksyon (Winning the election) is winning half the battle and now the work starts,” Emano said.

Meanwhile, elected SK officials in Cagayan de Oro City will also take their oath of office before the governor which will be witnessed by other Padayon Pilipino leaders and allies at the capitol grounds on Monday, May 28.
