RTA assures `smooth traffic’ for Bishop Dael’s ordination

- By PJ Orias

THE Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA) will implement a Special Traffic Scheme on June 6-8, 2018 in view of the Ordination and 25th Priesthood Anniversary of Fr. Raul Dael.

The public and the motorists are advised to cooperate and observe a temporary road closure from 1 am to 5 pm along Capistrano-Gaerlan Street, San Agustin, and Fernandez streets that surround the St. Augustine Cathedral Church where Dael will be ordained.

Contrary to its usual routes, public utility jeepneys (PUJs) from Carmen area traversing Ysalina Bridge will have to reroute to Capistrano-Chavez-Velez streets to Cogon, while PUJs from Cogon will have to pass Rizal Street to Velez street.

PUJs from North of Capistrano street will reroute to Cruz Taal in order to get to its destination.

The usual parking areas around the church vicinity will be closed and will only be allotted for the expected 4,000 guests during the ordination day on June 7.

Six Cardinals, 40 Bishops and 500 priests are expected to attend.

Raul Dael, a fisherman’s son from Kimaya, Jasaan, Misamis Oriental, will be the second diocesan priest from the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro to be appointed as Bishop.

Pope Francis appointed Dael as the third Bishop of Tandag in Surigao de Sur province, and will be the successor of 77-year-old Bishop Nereo Odchimar.

According to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), Odchimar, who is retiring after exceeding the age limit of 75, has served the diocese for almost 17 years and was a former president of the CBCP.

Bishop-elect Dael has been serving as the Vicar for the Clergy of the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro for the past years before his appointment.
