DPWH: Drainage in Kauswagan junction will be okay in June

- By PJ Orias

THE bad weather, a fiber optic cable, and an electric post were among the factors why the drainage construction along Kauswagan junction has been delayed and is continuously causing traffic in the area.

Worse, heavy flooding is also inevitable during rains.

Vinah Maghinay, spokesperson of the Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) in Northern Mindanao, said prior to the bad weather experienced earlier this week, construction works had to be stopped as DPWH personnel wait for PLDT to transfer the cable under the pavement.

Another issue was the electric post of the Cagayan Electric Power and Light Company, Inc. (Cepalco) that obstructed the drainage’s flow.

“All of these were already solved last week, but still they cannot continue because of the heavy rains,” Maghinay said.

The construction works will resume today, June 8, if the weather cooperates.

Supposedly, the target completion of the project was in May, but extended it until this month because of the delay.

Maghinay said if the drainage will be completed, flood won’t be a problem anymore in

Bulua and Kauswagan. “Before the drainage was constructed, all of the rainwaters will only be discharged to Sapang Creek that’s why flood is usually observed in Bulua area, but this drainage is designed to divide the water discharge to Sapang creek and hopefully to Cagayan river this month,” Maghinay added.

Maghinay appeals to the public to have more patience saying the drainage construction will help for flood prevention.
