Lack of nurses for provincial hospitals worries Bambi

- By Alwen Saliring

Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny Emano on Thursday, July 12, said he is anxious over the looming shortage of nurses in provincial-run hospitals.

Emano said the present number of nurses in the eight hospitals in the province remains adequate but he worries that the number would not be enough once some decide to seek greener pastures abroad.

“Wala pa karon nagkulang pero na-foresee namo nga a year from now magkulang ta sa nurses kay nabalaka ta sa paspas nga hiring sa mga nurses abroad unya dili namo mapugngan ang mga nurses nga manglangyaw (The number is adequate as of now but we are worried about a shortage a year from now if some decide to leave especially since there are many job openings abroad),” Emano told reporters during the 4th anniversary celebration of Misamis Oriental Care System (MisOr Cares) in Lagonglong town, Thursday.

The governor said the Capitol is planning to employ nurses who return home from abroad.

Emano said not long ago the province also experienced lack of resident doctors.

The Capitol’s top official said MisOr Cares has been able to sustain its support to the eight capitol-owned hospitals in terms of medicines, facilities and other health care services.

He said the provincial government allocates 40-60 percent of its annual budget for MisOr Cares.

Emano’s brainchild health care program has already served over a million services for four years despite mocks and ridicules it got from his political detractors when the program began.
