MisOr evacuees enjoy health care services

- By Alwen Saliring

LUMAD evacuees from Sitio Camansi, Banglay in Lagonglong, Misamis Oriental have availed various health care services through a medical mission at the provincial capitol park, over the weekend.

The half-day medical mission was initiated by Kalumbay lumad organization, Rural Missionaries of the Philippines-Northern Mindanao Region, Tulong Kabataan, Panday Bulig, Higala Lumad Network and other support groups.

Displaced residents avail free check-up, pre- natal for some seven pregnant women, medicines and vitamins.

The mission aims to provide relief of common ailments and primary healthcare to the Lumads, including pregnant women and children.

Sariza Acosta, spokesperson of the Tagtabulon Lumad organization, said they are bringing one bakwit to the hospital almost everyday since their encampment.

She said bakwits are experiencing fever, cough, upset stomach, among others, due to the environment that is different from their community.

Acosta said the evacuees were dismayed over the lack of medical assistance extended by the provincial government.

Acosta said the provincial government also failed to give their own share for the medical mission.

Bambi so basin naapikhan siguro sila,”Acosta said.

However, Acosta said they are thankful that other non-government organizations and the church have extended their aid to respond to the medical needs of the evacuees.
