The city government wants to involve barangay participation in going after business establishments who are violating city laws and regulations.
The city has created a Joint Inspection Team (JIT) and planned to expand it from only composing of city personnel to barangay officials especially the youth.
City Administrator Teddy Sabuga-a said the JIT will include barangay officials, barangay tanods, and the Sangguniang Kabataan to act as ‘deputized agents’.
One of their tasks is to report to authorities if there are violations committed by the establishments within their vicinity. Violations such as operating without business permit, illegally encroaching the sidewalk, and for failing to comply provisions on the building code and fire code, and becoming
a road obstruction, among others. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) lauded the move and vowed to assist the city in this campaign, especially in disciplining establishments built along the national highways.
The violations enumerated above are among the common violations committed by establishments. Sabuga-a said of this campaign succeeds, it will be a lot easier for the city and the national government to implement projects and buildings here will be safer for all of the city constituents.
“The laws that will be enforced is for the good of all. This might be at first a pain and hassle for the business community, but we assure them that this is also for their benefit,” Sabuga-a said.
Sabuga-a said the city shall come up with a checklist that would entail the violations and serve as guide to the inspection team. He however assured business owners that they will be given ‘grace period’ or enough time to address the violations and comply before they will impose penalties.
