Efforts to secure ABC polls in place

-

Police in Misamis Oriental is stepping up security measures for the federation election of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) in the province on Monday, July 30.

Provincial police director Senior Superintendent Rolando Destura said they are ready to provide security to ensure that the liga polls in the province is held peacefully.

“Naka-ready po tayo diyan mas gipalig-on nato ang security efforts natin kay mao man ang instruciton sa atong regional director (We are ready and we have strengthened our security efforts as instructed by our regional director),” Destura said.

Governor Yevgeny Emano earlier urged the police and the Depart The ment of Interior and Local Government-Misamis Oriental to monitor the liga chapter presidents of each town who will be voting amongst themselves for a seat in the provincial board.

Emano made the statement following the killing of Danao, Jasaan, Misamis Oriental village chief three days before the ABC chapter election in the town.

Investigators are looking at politics as possible motive.

Destura said there are no reports yet of threats on the lives of any Liga chapter presidents.

However, he urged them to be security conscious and to immediately report to the authorities should there be any threats on their lives so the police can immediately act on it.

“So far wala pa kaming natatanggap na report na may threat sa kanila (So far we haven’t received any reports yet). Siguro i-check nila ang mga security issues na pwede nila bag-uhon like dapat ilang mga balay nakakural kay dili ta kasiguro sa palibot (I think they should review their personal security issues like they should have their house fenced),”Destura said.
