Still, barangay 40 village chair Alam Lim stays as the president of the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) in Cagayan de Oro as he beat barangay 33 chairman Conrad Lim in the elections yesterday at Grand Caprice Restaurant.

Alam Lim got the votes of the 46 village chairmen of Cagayan de Oro, compared to Conrad's 34 votes.

Gusa barangay chair Marlo Tabac is the ABC vicepresident while the elected Auditor is Barangay 4 chair Kim Clark Yap.

Elected as ABC board of directors were Iponan village chair Maximo Allorin, Tablon village chair Billy Kid Auza, Barangay 29 chair Apolinar Bonete, and Patag village

chair Marycor Calizo. Also elected were Barangay 14 village chair Francisco Laihee, Agusan barangay chair Andrew iza, Puntod barangay chair Rexie Tinampay, and Lumbia village chair Alexander Torralba.

“It was a close fight but I am thankful that I got the support of the mayor and Congressman Klarex Uy, they helped me in my bout. I won even if the other party has poured money but the support of the barangay chairmen is just overwhelming,” Alam Lim said.

Meanwhile LnB presidentelect Leonard Winstanley of Talisayan town won the liga polls with 17 votes and no opponent for Misamis Oriental.

The newly elected president of the Liga ng mga Barangay (LnB) in Misamis Oriental is seeking for additional funds to support all village chiefs and programs of the provincial government in the barangays.

LnB president-elect Leonard Winstanley of Talisayan town won the liga polls with 17 votes and no opponent at a hotel in Barangay Cugman, Cagayan de Oro City, Monday July 30.

Other elected officers were Rene Fabria (Manticao)- Vice president; Franklin Panulaya (Balingoan)-Auditor; board of directors are Manuel Sofocado (Libertad); Agustin Sabugaa (Sugbongcogon); Emmanuel Felix Pupos (Medina); Edgar Priscion (Tagoloan); Jean Paul Redondo (Salay); and Leo Galarroza (Initiao).

Winstanley is the incumbent Liga president after he replaced the late Mario Emano at the provincial board.

“Mao ni akong first nga elected ko kay replacement man ko sa last time kang late Mario Eman,( This is my first to be elected because last time I was only a replacement ),” Win stanley said.

Of the 25 liga chapter presidents, only 17 have participated in the election while the eight others, who were identified to be allied with the opposition did not join.

Winstanley said of the 17, 12 were members and allies of the Padayon Pilipino Party, the political group led by Governor Yevgeny Emano.

The officers were sworn into office by the governor yesterday.

Edward Bhagwani, provincial director of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), said the winners are the only officials who filed their candidacy last July 24-26.

Bhagwani said the election was not “Lutong Macau” because everybody was given three days to file their candidacy.

“Dili ni siya matawag nga ‘Lutong Macau’ kay wala may gidid-an nga mag-file(This is a fair election becaue no one was barred from filing). Kani ra pud sila ang nag-file(They were the only ones who filed),”he said.

Winstanley said the additional funds that he would be pushing at the provincial board would be used for his priorities, especially in the fight against illegal drugs, support for barangay empowerment and health programs regardless of political affiliations.

He said the liga is receiving P300,000 from the provincial government at present.

Winstanley said he wants all village officials to set as an example to their constituents by undergoing drug test.

“Among hisgutan na kay mag budget hearing naman sad basin og madugangan ang pondo para sa mga programa nato nga ipaabot sa mga kabarangayan (We will tackle it on our budget hearing, we might have additional funds for the programs intended for the barangays),”Winstanley said.
