door, Yakimix on the ground floor, and 7-11 by the main entrance in the same complex. Aside from that, she also handles the Kaking store in Cogon, along with other business ventures in Cebu. With three kids, it’s a wonder how she can handle it all; but with a dazzling smile she said, “Thankfully, my husband and I are a team. It can get busy and toxic, but laban lang!”

I aksed her why she opened two lounges in one compound. She noted that the Skybar is more of a family-oriented hangout place with a varied food list on its menu, whereas the Superstar is more a of a watering hole for adults. She said: “Skybar is chill-chill lang. But Superstar is a place to have fun, party, and go clubbing! Of course this is not your kinky night club, but it’s more of wholesome kind of fun with drinks, good food, and music.”

I asked her about the name and she said: “We wanted to keep the letter S—Skybar and Superstar. It’s something like how a super star lights up the night sky. And besides, pinoys are all singing “Superstars”. We enjoy listening to music and we also like singing. We like to make tapok (gather), we love to eat, we bring out the Magic Sing, and then the karaoke becomes the main course! We all like to have fun like that. And if you notice we have Chinese characters, it’s also because I have Chinese heritage, so we’d like to target my community in this venture.”

The Superstar occupies one wing of the entire 3rd floor (adjacent to the Skybar). It is indeed a trendy place for parties that’s dimly-lit but bedecked with colorful laser lights, which blink and move with the pulsating music. This place is also perfect for corporate parties, bachelorettes, birthdays, etc. It can cater to over 150 people capacity with its large open bar concept. The main lounge has more than 8 giant TVs and and one humongous floor-to-ceiling projection screen occupying one corner of the room.

They also offer 4 private karaoke rooms, all equipped with big flat TVs, a state of the art sound system, and (optional) club mood lighting. They have different themes from modern, kitschy, classic, or victorian. The rooms are fairly big and can accommodate 15 guests. There’s no cap in time and you can stay there singing from 5pm to 3amso be sure to book your room early if you intend to sing the night away. Note that smoking is permitted in the private karaoke rooms, but it is non-smoking in the main bar area.

The Superstar has typical pulutan fare that’s good for sharing with staples like barbeque, sisig, chicharon bulaklak, chicken intestines, gambas, lechon kawali, and the like. Emilyn said her own personal favorite is the sizzling squid so be sure to try that one! Again, the price list doesn’t break the bank so don’t let the classy ambience deter you from coming in. They have a pretty extensive beer, wine, and cockatails list. The Tequila Sunrise, Black Russian, and Frozen Margarita we tried hit the spot!

Among the food we ordered, my friends and I concurrently agree that the delicious but sinful chicharon bulaklak is our favorite. Rice is available for the carboloading lovers. If you are craving for more than what’s on the menu, like healthy dishes, you can cross-order from the Skybar (but note that orders from there cannot be deducted from the consumable).

The Superstar has various themes and events so be sure to check out their FB page with the same name. They have a DJ from Wednesday to Saturday and they have event themes like the Way Back Wednesday, Happy Hour, Ladies Night, and the like. For the days you want to take your singing prowess to next level, this is the place to be. Talent or no talent, anyone can sing their heart out and do videoke. All it takes is 99% guts and 1% talent! No guts no glory. So c’mon, have a good time, and party with us at the Superstar KTV Lounge and Club where we are all superstars!!!
