RIAS-10 probes ‘nanlaban’ cases
The Regional Internal Affairs Service of the PNP is looking into the deaths of “Nanlaban” suspects in NorMin
The internal affairs service of the Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) is investigating the deaths of suspected drug personalities during police operations in the region.
Data from the PRO-10 showed that from January to August this year, a total of eight drug suspects were killed in antiillegal drug operations.
Some were killed by the anti-narcotics operatives after suspects allegedly fought back (Nanlaban) and resulted to a shootout.
From the said figure, four were killed in Misamis Oriental last January, April and two this month.
Three were killed in Bukidnon last May and this month and one in Misamis Occidental last May.
PRO-Northern Mindanao spokesperson Superintendent Surki Serenas said the record is based on the Crime Incident Reporting and Analysis System (CIRAS), a PNP evidence-based crime data recording system which cannot be manipulated
or concealed. “If there are other data from other sources outside the PNP CIRAS, we cannot vouch for them,”Serenas said.
Serenas said with regards to the “nanlaban” issue, the circumstances surrounding each incident is different and “we cannot just give a sweeping statement for all the incidents because it is very likely to be misinterpreted”.
He said the unit concerned is open to any inquiry or probe such as the motu propio investigation conducted by the Regional Internal Affairs Service (RIAS).
Serenas said once the investigation finds that operatives are criminally liable for the deaths of suspects killed in police operation, the operatives will be charged and will be booted out from the police police service.
“There is nothing to hide,”he said.
