Ateneo de Cebu leads teams in PIA/ CdeO Futsal tourney

VIGAN Palaro champion Ateneo de Cebu will lead more than 20 women and girls’ teams to the two-day Pinay In Action (PIA)/ Cagayan de Oro Futsal Championsh­ips slated here on Sept. 8-9 at the Bulua National High School gym.

The two-day competitio­n is sponsored by Senator Pia Cayetano’s Pinay In Action (PIA) Football in cooperatio­n with the Bulua Strikers FC and the Bulua barangay council.

The Ateneo de Cebu Girls Futsal team of coach Melanie Bordalba is a powerhouse in the Cebu Futsal community with St. Theresa’s College.

Ateneo de Cebu of Mandaue City represente­d Central Visayas in the Vigan Palaro and beefed up with players from St. Theresa’s College and Talisay National High School.

The Ateneans will compete in the Girls 17 category set on Sept. 8 and in the Women’s Open on Sept. 9.

Other teams joining in the Girls 17 category are Lumbia Raptors FC, Iligan City United, Rosevale School, Higala FC, Laguinding­an NHS, Talisay Razkals (Cebu), Bulua NHS, Iligan Medical Center College, Fr. Saturnino Urios University of Butuan, Corpus Christi School and Stonefield FCOzamis A,

Stonefield FC Ozamis B, Xavier University and St. Mary’s Academy of Carmen.

In the Girls 14 category teams joining are Higala FC, Bulua teams A and B, and Higala FC.

Eight teams have so far signed up to compete in the Women’s Open category. They are Lumbia Raptors FC, Higala FC, Xavier University, Ateneo de Cebu, Bulua National High School, Stonefield FC Ozamis City and Go Romee FC.

Winners will get trophies and medals from tournament sponsors.

The tournament is sanctioned by the Cagayan de Oro Misamis Oriental Regional Football Associatio­n (CMORFA) and the Philippine Football Federation (PFF). (l.biantan@gmail.com)
