THE Junior Chamber International (JCI) Macajalar 24K has organized a fund-raising project, the block screening of the Filipino movie “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral” on Wednesday, September 5, wherein the proceeds will be donated to the organization’s community projects which center on supporting children.

Present during the event, in SM Downtown Premier Cinema in Cagayan de Oro City, were actresses Empress Schuck and Stephanie Sol, who played Felicidad Aguinaldo and Clara respectively.

The event is also the premiere night of the movie.

“This block screening is really our fund raising project for the benefit of the 2019 community projects of JCI Macajalar 24K,” Sherry Somo, the LO (local organization) president of JCI Macajalar 24K, said.

Some of the community projects of JCI Macajalar, according to Somo, are assisting a day care center in Lumbia, the Xavier Ecoville Study Development Center, and created a sanctuary in Binaungan.

They also sponsor mass wedding of 24 couples every year as part of their projects.

Somo also mentioned that Sol and the manager of SM Downtown Premier are members of JCI Macajalar, thus the event was conducted to help the organization and is held in the said location.

“So before the showing of the movie, she [Sol] communicated with us and she said that she wants to bring Goyo here in Mindanao kay naa man gyud premier night sa Luzon and Visayas so she wants to bring it here in Mindanao,” Somo said.

“The manager of SM Downtown is also a member of JCI Macajalar 24K. So we help each other to have big projects such as this,” she added.

Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral is a Philippine historical epic about General Gregorio del Pilar which is played by Paulo Avelino. It is the sequel of the 2015 movie “Heneral Luna.”

“Kakaiba siyang pelikula kasi sa lahat ng mga movies na napapanood natin at ginagawa natin, palagi syang about perfection, kailangan hindi ka mabait, kailangang bida, perfect sya... and for this one, its a different movie kasi pinakita nya yung fairness lang, yung pagiging tao natin,” Empress said.

“The movie makes you introspect and think more, so it challenges us to think. Ang tagline ng movie is ‘Tandaan mo kung sino ka’ so we remember ourselves as a Filipino people, we remember our challenges, we remember our responsibilities in our country. The movie is about struggling to balance love life, career and the calling of the country. I think that’s the movie is all about,” Sol added.

The movie, according to the actresses, was shot in a span of seven months and in various locations such as Manila, Tarlac, among others.

“This movie, we are really proud of it because it’s the celebration of the 150th Philippine Cinema and we’re branding it as the biggest Philippine epic,” Sol said.
