Hard work pays off

- By Betty Saliring

Behind every school graduation is a dream of landing a career that would determine one’s future.

From surprise quizzes, periodical or term exams, experiments, projects, research papers, thesis, among other school works to real-world engagements, are all part of the progressing transition. But, despite the daily school struggles and hassles, one must be goal-driven and determined to get a hold on the kind of future he or she aspires to have.

However, students or pupils are not alone in achieving triumph as teachers and school administrators have been their guiding torch towards success. Even the government’s education department is keen on ensuring programs and strategies are in place to fit to the needs of the times.

Take for example the DepEd’s K-12 program which covers Kindergarten and 12 years of basic education. This set-up provides sufficient time and opportunity for students to master the concepts and skills and prepare them for the career they want to be in after graduation. Also, others who are financially constrained to pursue college degrees are not hopeless as there are other learning strategies to hone their skills and still land a good employment opportunity afterwards such as the Technical-Vocational Livelihood (TVL) which will equip learners with job-ready skills in Agri-fishery arts, home economics and communications technology and industrial arts.

As such, the Division of Misamis Oriental has maximized all academic and practical techniques, in a holistic and comprehensive approach, to make sure Senior High School students are fully equipped and trained before they experience the corporate world outside the four corners of the school. That is why the division initiated the Senior High School Expo where students displayed and showcased their skills and learned abilities. Since 2017, more students took part in the activity region-wide. A glimpse of hope manifests every time they cook, serve, sell finished products, scrub feet, doing manicures and pedicures. Thus, their output reveal they are ready to work and take big steps closer to their dreams.

The future may be uncertain and goals in life may seem to be unachievable, but with hard work, perseverance, faith and prayers, everything is within reach. Senior High School may cause a little delay for many but little do they know that this opportunity provides hope, transforms mindsets, and rekindles passions. What has been sown today will definitely be reaped tomorrow, as the saying goes great things come from small beginnings.
