Benguet town fetes cleanest, greenest villages, schools

CITY - La Trinidad, Benguet’s capital town, awarded the winners of the 2018 Search for the Cleanest and Greenest barangay and public school.

Barangay Lubas was declared as the cleanest and greenest barangay, followed by Alapang, Tawang, Ambiong and Puguis in the top five.

During the closing and awarding program of the 38th Strawberry Festival, the schools and barangays were recognized by officials led by Mayor Romeo Salda and Vice Mayor Joey Marrero.

The top five winners received a certificat­e of recognitio­n and cash prize of P55,000; P40,000; P30,000; P25,000 and P20,000, respective­ly.

For public elementary schools, Alapang was hailed as the greenest and cleanest school with Bineng, Longlong and La Trinidad Central School in the top four.

The top four cleanest and greenest schools received cash prizes of P30,000; P25,000; P20,000 and P15,000.

A special award was also given to Barangays Lubas and Puguis receiving P7,500 cash prize each for best implemente­r in Aksyon Barangay Kontra Zika, Dengue at Chikunguny­a 2018.

The entries of the barangays of the town were validated for 2018 including the last months of 2017.

Representa­tives from Municipal Health Services Office, Mayor’s Office, Municipal Planning and Developmen­t Office, Municipal Engineerin­g, and Agricultur­e validated the entries from their solid waste management, materials recovery facility, composting, good sanitation practices, clean-up drive activities, among others.(Lauren Alimondo/ Sunstar Baguio)
