IN LINE with the celebration of the Mother's Day and Heritage Month, the Artists' Association of Mindanao (AAM) opened an art painting exhibit last Wednesday, May 8, at the second of Limketkai Center, Cagayan de Oro City.

Also marking its first year anniversary, the AAM featured the paintings of the 12 participating Misamisnon and Kagay-anon artists, namely: Jimar Amarga, Ronnie Anggot, Albert Antipas, Ulysses Baguhin, Rosito Dena, Arnold Dumo, Claire Gilda Dumo, Reymond Labonite, Leah Remolado, Jojo Requina, Junie Rule, and Felix Yecla.

The exhibit was dubbed "Treasure your Mother's and Heritage."

According to Remolado, the founding chair and president of AAM, the Artists' Association of Mindanao is a group of artists from Cagayan de Oro, Bukidnon, and Claveria who are in the field of signage, commercial arts, mural wall painting, lettering, and book cover illustrator.

The AAM, Remolado added, is to help the budding artists in the region.

"Do what you wanna do provided na you give your best shot kasi once na you have the passion, you will excel wherever you go and do what you wanna love, and in spite of your work, diha ka mo (you will) excel and diha sad ka magdugay (you will stay long), mag-last sa (you will last in the) field of art," Remolado said during her message.

"So keep on drawing not only drawing research not only painting to upgrade your skills and talent, love, passion, sustain lang, practice, and experiment and research," she added.

Remolado also owns a private and advocacy institution called the Leah D. Remolado Arts and Events Center which offers an art workshop this summer for kids.
